The topic of the conference was “Breaking down walls and building bridges to ensure a World of Human Rights and a World without violence.” Participants discussed global developments 20 years after the fall of the Berlin wall and the need to break down the national and international walls that still exist today: walls between rich and poor, walls that prevent elimination of nuclear weapons, walls that thwart solutions to cultural and religious conflicts, as well as walls that stand in the way of combating climate change.
Young people were strongly represented at the summit and were bold and demanding in their views, asking for more inclusion within the conference and not just a small speech on a panel. They posed challenging questions to the Nobel Laureates and demanded that climate change be put in the forefront of the Laureates agenda at the COP15 negotiations. The young adults present at the summit had infectious enthusiasm and passion, and Julia and Rocio “identified with the continuous fight for social equity, sustainable use of natural resources and responsible economy and encourage everyone to join this battle”.
