The Global Humanitarian Forum's Youth Forum

 

Global humanitarian challenges concern young people as much as they concern the older generation. Nowadays, those challenges can no longer be solved separately from each other, be it across nations, across religions or across generations.

It is crucial that the younger generation has access to a platform where they can express their views on humanitarian issues, present their ideas to overcome those challenges and exchange their thoughts with peers and key stakeholders of the older generation.

As young people, we need to come together to tackle humanitarian challenges!
We need innovative and action-oriented strategies to overcome those challenges!
We need to discuss with world decision makers and act together, now!

Back to basics (part 2)
Parties under the UNFCCC (virtually, all the countries of the world) have the possibility to build protocols. A protocol is a text that defines the modalities to be implemented to fulfill the very broad goals of the UNFCCC. It was at COP3 (in Kyoto), that the parties set up the Kyoto Protocol (KP) after exhausting rounds of negotiations.

Graph of the day- Aggregated emissions reduction
These are probably the most discussed figures of the conference. The following link allows you to examine the Annex 1 countries pledges for CO2 emissions reductions calculated by the World Ressource Institute. The IPCC requires to stay under the limit of 2°C a decrease in Annex 1 countries emissions between 25% and 40%. In the most optimistic cases we realize that the cumulated pledges for Annex 1 countries lies between 14 and 19%, that is far below what is necessary. So what can we do now? ...
